Hair Design: Styles for the Fall

Hair Design: Styles for the Fall

Summer is flying by, and although we are in Florida, we can appreciate the styles of fall, long-sleeved tees, close-toed shoes and even the occasional scarf if we’re lucky. While beach hair might have gotten you through the sweltering summer months, you may need to up your game for the less casual fall look. Here are four ideas for how to do so.

Soft Waves

Don’t confuse this style with the flyaway sand-and-surf look you get from walking down to the waterside with wet hair where you let the wind dry it. Again, the beach look will transition to a softer, more styled appeal come fall. Achieve it with a flat iron or a curling iron, twisting strands around the hot tool and pulling slightly at the ends.

Messy Fishtail

The fishtail is hard to master, but once you do, you’ll never go back. This braid uses only two main sections of hair, rather than three, and with a lot of patience you can get a very fine fishbone look. Because the fall look is not quite as structured as, say, winter, you can tease the hair gently before starting, or pull pieces out afterward for a bedhead aesthetic.

Heidi Braids

This classic hairstyle will never fade. You can take two approaches with the Heidi braid, either doing your hair in two pigtails and then folding them over the top, or leaving the bulk of your hair down and using just a little hair above your ears to make a headband.

Tousled Lob

The long bob, or lob, has become a very popular hairstyle in Hollywood in the last few years. What is especially charming is a lob with soft, unstructured curls throughout. To get the look, curl hair in both directions, spray with a product that provides workable hold, then allow to dry. When curls are fully set, pull them apart and tousle.
