Barbering School: The First Day Checklist
You’ve been accepted to one of the top barber schools in Orlando, FL, and your first day is fast approaching. It’s natural to feel excited and nervous at the beginning of each school year. After all, this is the first day of training for your career! And, of course, you want the day to go off without a hitch. Here’s a checklist to help ensure that’s exactly what happens on your first day of barber school!

Double Check Your Registration Applying and being accepted to the barber training program is not the same as registering. So, be sure that you double-check your registration, and ensure every part of it is complete. The last thing you want is to show up on your first day, only to find out your registration is incomplete. Even if you’re confident you’ve done everything you need to do to register, it never hurts to double-check. Research the School or Program Hopefully, you did some research before applying to the school or training program. But take a little extra time to familiarize yourself with the school even more before your first day. Read up on their courses, how long the program takes to complete, the skills that you’ll learn, and how those skills are tested along the way. The more you know about it, the more confident you’ll feel on your first day. Have All the Necessary Supplies A barber training program or cosmetology program is quite different from standard education courses, and that means you’ll need different kinds of “school supplies.” Invest in the highest-quality barbering tools you can afford. The higher the quality of your equipment, the longer they’ll last. Make sure you have something to organize the tools properly as well. When you show up with quality tools that are organized and well cared for, you’ll be demonstrating your commitment to the courses you’re about to take. Don’t overlook a few of those standard “school supplies” as well. After all, you are still a student! So, bring along notebook and writing utensils for taking notes, and be prepared to learn. Wear Comfortable Shoes While this could easily be considered an essential piece of equipment for cosmetology or barbering school, they’re worth mentioning separately—that’s how important they are. You’ll spend a lot of time on your feet throughout your training program, so make sure your shoes provide proper support, and that they’re a nice, neutral color, such as black.

Know the Dress Code On a related note, be sure that you know the dress code for the school you’ll be attending. Most barbering schools ask their students to dress professionally and in neutral colors. You’ll be practicing on real clients throughout your training, so it’s important that you look the part, and are well-kempt, tidy, and professional in your appearance. If you’re ever uncertain about the dress code, you can always ask a course instructor about what to wear. Your first day of training is your first step towards a career in barbering. No matter which of the barber schools in Orlando you may be attending, this checklist will help to ensure your first day is a great one.
